Rafter Wool-Cashmere Cardigan

A 12-gauge cardigan in extrafine merino with cashmere carried through for hand, heavy enough at 320gsm to hold a clean vertical line instead of collapsing at the shoulder. It is fully fashioned, so the shoulder and armhole are shaped on the machine rather than cut and overlocked, which is why it sits flat across the back when worn open. The placket is knitted in and doubled with six corozo buttons, and the cuffs and hem are set on a 2x2 rib that has been steamed rather than stretched so it will not flare after a season. The neckline is a shallow crew that stays clear of a shirt collar. It is the piece that lives on the back of a chair through a Hobart winter and comes back out in an over-air-conditioned meeting room in February.

• Fabric: 85% extrafine merino wool, 15% cashmere, 12-gauge, 320gsm
• Care: Hand wash cold in a wool detergent, or dry clean. Do not wring. Reshape and dry flat away from direct sun. Cool iron under a cloth. Store folded, never on a hanger.
• Fit: Relaxed through the body with a dropped shoulder, cut to be worn open. Size down for a closer layer under a coat. Model is 176cm and wears AU 10.

We choose our cloth from long-established mills in India, where these fibres have been woven for generations, and hold every roll to the same standard before it is cut. Your piece is then made up by hand in our Australian atelier.

Wash cool and gently, dry in the shade, and press on a low heat. Silk and linen are happiest dry cleaned.

Australian sizing, AU 6 to AU 16. Cut true to size. Between sizes, take the larger for a relaxed line.
