Ballast Quilted Shell Coat

Built for the four blocks from Flinders Street when the rain is going sideways. The Ballast is a quilted shell coat in recycled nylon ripstop with a PFC-free water-repellent finish, wadded with Australian merino so it is warm without the bulk. The channel quilting runs vertically to keep the line long, the collar stands to the jaw, and the two-way zip opens from the hem so you can sit down on the tram without fighting it. Fleece-backed hand pockets. It washes at home, which matters in July. Ink, moss or rust.

• Fabric: Shell 100% recycled nylon ripstop, 65gsm, PFC-free water-repellent finish; wadding 70% Australian merino wool, 30% recycled polyester, 200gsm; lining 100% recycled nylon taffeta
• Care: Machine wash cold on gentle with a mild detergent. Do not tumble dry. Hang to dry and reproof the shell as needed.
• Fit: Relaxed, with room for a merino knit beneath; take your usual size. Model is 176cm and wears AU 10; centre-back length 104cm.

We choose our cloth from long-established mills in India, where these fibres have been woven for generations, and hold every roll to the same standard before it is cut. Your piece is then made up by hand in our Australian atelier.

Wash cool and gently, dry in the shade, and press on a low heat. Silk and linen are happiest dry cleaned.

Australian sizing, AU 6 to AU 16. Cut true to size. Between sizes, take the larger for a relaxed line.
