Tide Washed Silk Maxi

Sandwashed silk crepe de chine has a matte, powdery surface instead of the hard shine of charmeuse, which is why it holds up in hard coastal light and does not cling in humidity. It is cut fully on the bias in six panels with French seams throughout, so it releases over the hip and falls to the ankle with a weighted swing, and the back is drawn into a soft cowl that sits below the shoulder blade. The straps are 25mm and shaped rather than fine, so the dress carries a bra strap and reads as a dress rather than a slip, with a concealed side zip and a rolled hem. This is the dress for a Byron Bay wedding where the ceremony is on sand and the reception is barefoot by nine, and it rolls into a carry-on without a mark.

• Care: Dry clean recommended. A cool hand wash in silk detergent is possible; dry flat in shade and cool iron on the reverse.

We choose our cloth from long-established mills in India, where these fibres have been woven for generations, and hold every roll to the same standard before it is cut. Your piece is then made up by hand in our Australian atelier.

Wash cool and gently, dry in the shade, and press on a low heat. Silk and linen are happiest dry cleaned.

Australian sizing, AU 6 to AU 16. Cut true to size. Between sizes, take the larger for a relaxed line.
